Venice Hotels

Posted on March 21, 2011 by

Venice hotels are a step away from every place you could find yourself at. Since Venice lives on tourism for 300 years now, so most of the Venice’s hotels are set in wonderful historical buildings. “Character” is the main term that would describe the hotels of Venice. Perhaps nowhere else in the world is there a such high concentration of hotels that actually are palaces.

Though this might be charming, finding a good hotel at a good price seems to be rather venice1 Venice Hotelschallenging in this city. Most of them are overpriced, or, the cheaper ones, not so well maintained. There may be a slight lack of care in Venetian hoteliers, because they know people will keep on coming to Venice anyway.

The truth is that, if you are willing to pay good money, there’s a wide selection for you at the higher end of the hotel market in Venice.  Grand palazzi line the canals around the Piazza San Marco and also the Lido.  Given you travel on a smaller budget, you’ll st likely end up in one of the new bed & breakfast style guest houses ( pensioni or locande).  Some of these are very simple, others are very luxurious villas, transformed.

The main problem in Venice is though that, for a 2 or 3 star accommodation, you’ll pay more than almost anywhere in the world. It simply is so, and, if you want to have a nice and tranquil holiday, you’ll take it as it is.  It’s a city so much worth visiting, that it actually doesn’t matter so much if you don’t choose one of them more comfortable hotels, just to live up to your budget.

On the other hand, the new generation of hoteliers decided that it would be nice to attract tourists to stay more, or try to get those that don’t so so well with money, so, it’s expected for the older ones to try and lower their prices also, in the next few years. Until then, the advice we can offer you: go more for the price of hotels, than for the quality of them.

Our first advice: coming to Venice for the first time, choose to stay on the Lido Island, It’s quieter, cheaper, not so close to the center, but quiet. It only gets busy during the September film festival. When choosing Venice Hotels, mind the price, and forget the location: you’ll be traveling on water, to the city center, from anywhere, so it doesn’t matter.
